767I MIA Caribbean flying has domestic mixed into the trips. Lots of variety.

Yes very jr reserves do get occasional Paris Madrid or even Barcelona.

Here's how the AA reserve system works.

0-10 hours is group 1. You use your seniority in group 1 to pass if someone is junior to you or pick the best trip for you.
Everyone in group 1 must fly before they go to group 2 (or be tagged sick, vacation ect.)
10-20 hours is group 2.
20-30 group 3 ect.

So you're really jr on airplane and in group 1 for tomorrow. Group 1 gets first pick of all trips for tomorrow.

Say 3 trips. 2 guys in group 1.
The 2 in group 1 get to pick the trips they want. The leftover trip goes to group 2.

For same day flying less than 10 hours to sign in. We use 3 hour bands.

Group 1 short call 0-3 hours.
Group 2 short call 3-6 hours.

If you flew Feb 28 into March 1,2 you'd have say 8 hours which is good gets you out of short call short notice trips.

Reseerve pilots have a reserve preference ballot they can fill out on computer for each day, or a PASS ALL trips where they only call you when you have to go fly.

Now throw in RAPS and some people are just unavailable for certain trips.

The 757 767 in MIA Int'l bid status has the most variety. It's really fun, and once your'e a line holder you can pick your lifestyle. Morning person, night owl, short legs long legs.

But for a new hire, 767 is a huge amount of info. You'd have to know everything but Far East.

If you are good with numbers and a voracious reader go for it. For a first year pilot on reserve and getting a lot of FB trips you could get rusty. Reserve is random, even with having a choice sometimes, many times on reserve you do not have a choice.
