It does seem odd that you've got to buy used (off EBay or the like) to have an "approved" device. They are doing this in preparation of putting everyone on the Surface platform. Why Surface is another debate, which ends with basically, because our employer said so.
You can side load your stuff (as Android guys have always done) or wait. I've not tried it on an iPad, but I'd think the instructions would work. I'm not sure where else to find the instructions, but they are hosted on a thread in the Chitchat forum ... Forums > Computers > iPubs.me
The LCA were thinking they would all get their Surface this week. I'd imagine we are just a few months behind them.
We get them in May is what I understood.
I was prancing around Costco the other day and found one of those new 20+ inch touch screen computers. Basically, a massive Ipad screen but a normal computer. Now windows 8 makes complete sense because windows 7 wouldn't be a lot of fun on a touch screen.
