It's unfortunately true. Delta hiring is finding out what make up the seniors there which is likely similar to other regionals. They are mostly stuck there for a reason with of course a few exceptions. The liability involved would be interesting to see given how bad so many have blown the screening yet go back to fly delta pax.
I don't think there's any liability. Even a rookie HR dept at an upstart knows how to layer their interview process with more than enough plausable deniability for a million reasons. And DL's HR dept is no rookie. Unless they start stamping "UNSAFE TO FLY DELTA PASSENGERS" in red block letters on their application and then save it for audit, they have nothing to worry about.
Who, pilot John Doe? Well our records, backed up by Federal qualification standards, show he was fully qualified. He just didn't meet all of our personality requirements at the time. Perhaps he didn't know enough DL logo history, or his shoes weren't shined enough. We were still going to hire him, but he wore a blue tie to the interview, so...
