One of my very favorite captains to fly with at my current company was rejected at Delta. He's a great guy... Very personable, very sharp, excellent CRM, and so on. Just one of those guys that makes the whole crew happy, and 4 days become fun. I was really shocked when he told me he didn't make it through the Delta interview. Their loss, without a doubt.
I've seen many examples like that. The thing is that Delta may see things that you are not seeing, What is a nice guy for you and an excellent pilot is not necessary that nice or great for another person. I have also seen the opposite. I have seen Delta taking guys that I would not hire if I owned an airline. We do not have the map / picture they go by when they hire so we can only speculate.
