Captains on the broquito aint making jack $hit let alone FOs. I guess one could always live in the Crack Castle apartment complex close to SFO..... At least you won't have to commute.
I was based in SFO for a while as an FO. There were a few different types of people there. Some FOs would live together in 2-3 bedroom apartments and split the expensive rent just because they liked the city. Living with others made it more tolerable. Some FOs wanted SFO because they grew up there and could live with family in SFO cheaper than they could rent a place in cheaper cities like MSP. A lot of both FOs and Captains on the brasilia commuted from Sacramento where cost of living is a lot cheaper.
Everyone has different reasons for where they want to be based. "this person makes 20k/year so they shouldn't live in SFO" is a huge generalization.
