I've never lived in San Francisco itself, but have lived in the area, within driving distance, for 13 years now. Met my wife here, and she has a good job. We've planted roots. We did contemplate leaving the area in support of the last flying job I had but my wife ultimately did not want to uproot.

And yeah, not having an airline commute (driving distance to reserve short call, from home) made it a good life. I fear the day I have to commute again since it is not a good lifestyle unless circumstances are just right...
