If they are doing the same thing as United, you must have a current First Class within 6 months. If not, the application is not eligible and will not be moved to the next step, regardless of age. That is confirmed with UAL, not sure about DAL though.
That's the way it was in 07, but I think the law hadn't been changed yet so after 6 months you actually had a 2nd class whereas now you legally still have a 1st class. Guys were doing a medical every six months just for their application to be all up to date.
