He did quite well considered he got trained on the plane before Christmas and then didn't have a landing for 60 days. But since all new hires are captains with years and 1000s of hours of experience, the flying is rarely the issue. It's ground ops, callouts, and procedural stuff that gets rusty when not practiced a lot immediately after initial training.
