Have a 1st class medical all the way thru training. You will get a type ride (capt's check ride). Then, if you are younger than 40, I believe you are allowed to let it lapse to a 2nd class for domestic operations. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Why is a first class required through the type ride? Is that just a Delta specific policy or is there an FAR I'm forgetting?
