In 18 months on the Bro I took a jumpseater in the actual with a full boat once. It's not about the length of flight but almost always about running up against ZFW. Kids and a light cargo load might be able to get you in the jumpseat but make sure the captain knows you are trying to get on.
I only had someone in the actual jumpseat once. The FA's seat was deferred so the back was limited to 29 but we had the numbers to take 30 provided one person sit in the actual jumpseat.
I was never able to get 31 on board.
