SkyWest is becoming a "get current and bail" mecca, the hiring standards have made this happen. The middle of the road guys being hired are competitive at the LCC's, the upper end guys are competitive at the Majors.
I know at least 5 from my class have bailed. JB, SWA and one is in the pool at UAL. I would say that 75% of the people in the class were actively interviewing or applying during sim/IOE. The upper end guys were shocked they were offered the SKW job because they pretty much needed currency and they were good to go.
If the concern is spending too much money training a CFI how to fly the CRJ, I'd guess they waste 10x this amount providing a paid currency course for the overqualified.
