I did 55 straight across gusting 70 out on the coast once in the caravan going into hooper bay....it was a hell of a rush lol only managed cause i didnt check the weather machine before...otherwise i think it would have scared me away from trying when i heard the number. You say that you were turned off to bush flying, but isn't it flights like that which keep the mentality going? Sounds like a bad decision to go. Luckily, things are changing out there, maybe not fast, but all the same.
75kts of headwind is vastly different than 40kts of x-wind BTW.
