Last week I sat waiting for our gate to open for almost 30 minutes (after an on time arrival) in NRT while literally every single other gate was open. Let's do the math, four engines idling at 1500pph = 3000 pounds burned in that 30 minutes for NOTHING. And they want me to try to save them gas. Not gonna happen until they do too.
The Airbus manual says that if you don't have final weights when ready to taxi, complete the After Start Checklist to the phase line and begin the taxi. The rest can be completed during the taxi once final weights are received. Are you saying that the 747 manual does not give you this option?
