There is a two flight commuter clause in the UPA. If you dont get on the first flight, you can call scheduling and make them aware. They can choose to give you positive space on the second. If you miss the trip, you lose the pay. I dont recommend you try and use this while you are on probation.....just saying. Oh, one more thing, when the weather is bad, the company sends out a message on CCS advising all commuters to plan accodingly. For me, I take the pain and do whatever I have to do in order to be in position. That often means long naps in the lazy boy at the CPO.
Ding ding ding ding. While on probation, for the LOVE OF GOD please don't miss a trip on your commute. I remember going early the morning the day before a trip sometimes if the loads looked bad. Back them you couldn't use a pass for the first 6 months, so it was the jumpseat or nothing. And since passes cost money, I got bumped several times by some senior captain who didn't want to pay the $7 to ride in the back. Nice.
Just do what you have to do for the first year. Seriously. Don't put yourself in a position where you have to explain why you missed a trip.
