I think you might be surprised, then, to realize that there is an actual city out there beyond the Strip, which has many of the activities and entertainment that any other normal city has.
When I lived there as a young single dude just out of college, I burned out on the "manufactured experience" as you put it after about 6 months...but then I really found out what the rest of the city and southern Nevada was all about.
If you are an outdoorsy type, then it is an absolute playground; hiking, mountain biking, sailing and boating (on Lake Mead), shooting/hunting, mountain climbing, off-roading...you name it, all within a 30-45 minute drive in there in or around the valley, and even more if you drive an hour to the adjoining areas outside the valley.
