The more contrast, the better. We are the only protectors of our "brand," and it's only worth what we demand for it, both in terms of respect, and in terms of compensation.
Besides, there's something to be said for professional pride. Looking the part makes one feel the part, to a degree.
Sadly, most people don't (seem to) care, which is ironic, considering they've likely invested more in their career than their predecessors!
