Seniority at the airline is determined by date of hire. Within you class, you will all have the same date of hire, so here, it goes by age within your class. Some airlines use the last 4 of your SS#.
In DTW, you can expect 1-2 years as an FO on reserve. ATL you can expect 3-4. IAD/DFW are about a year. Shortest upgrade in the company is still running about 8 years.
