Folks were livin' high on the hog when I was at ATA. They took out 100K, rented sweet apartments, hit up the bars and clubs. Seems folks my age don't want to do without. I was essentially homeless after ATA folded, I also wasn't terribly smart money wise (stupid ='s putting all my money down at the beginning of training), but I learned quick! I lived in friend's Hangars, slept on a cot, had a camp stove and 2 totes with all my belongings. I worked 2 jobs, saved every penny, drove a Geo and lived about as frugally as you can. I wasn't unhappy, I had a blast those years. I just can not understand the fiscal irresponsibility of folks now a days. I wasn't taught how to be frugal or smart when I was younger, but I educated myself ASAP when I hit the real world.
