I think that may be part of the issue. People just let it go. Admittedly, it would be difficult to have a leg to stand on to address an individual's appearance if that individual is from another airline (unless he/she is in your jumpseat). However, we owe it to ourselves as a collective group and to the individual pilot to address professional shortcomings. I would venture to say that the general public could not tell the difference between a poorly dressed Skywest guy or a poorly dressed Delta guy (most Delta guys would argue that there is no such thing
