I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as you have the opportunity to get 8 hours of sleep at the hotel. But that's going to be at least 9 hours in the hotel room and, unless it's an extremely short flight you're now pushing the max duty limit. Doesn't seem very practical.
Under FAR 117, the time you spend in the hotel does not count toward the FDP limit. So, you can be on a split duty period for up to 14 hours, so long as you get at least a 3-hour "sleep opportunity" and so long as the total time spent on the split duty period, minus the time spent in the sleep opportunity, does not exceed your normal FDP limit.
