The unscientific commonality seems to be lack of recency of experience. Good quals, not recent. Lots of pilots are trying to go back to full time flying status and unfortunately the only avenue is the regionals.
I say unfortunate not because of the flying but because of the pay. Big difference between 27K and 47K in terms of QOL (If you're making 120K a year a 20K difference is not taking the boat out as much. If you're making 27K that difference gets you out of the foreclosure zone). And second year difference is of course astronomical. I'm shedding every possible expense right now to try and stomach it (aside from selling my home on a 4% mortgage, as I won't even qual for another mortgage on 1st yr regional FO pay).
