I agree there is definately a general broad based correlation. All things equal, higher GPA usually does reflect harder work, more smarts, the future ability to fly the crap out of an ILS or whatever. But there is more to it than just that. I'm glad DL recognizes and values hard work in college as well as life in general. I just hope they aren't too myopic about that one thing to the point of excluding some otherwise exceptional candidates.

FWIW I think its absolutely fair to "grill" someone at an interview about a lower GPA. And its not that some people will have "excuses" but rather there are likely many cases where further inquiry would lead to a more approproate decision being made than just excluding someone based largely on that one metric.
