As of now the junior equipment on the West coast (LAX) is the 737. At the present hiring pace it could be 6 months to 2 years to get to LAX as a new-hire on the 737.
The 320 will get you to SLC in a similar amount of time and the 88 only gets you as far west as MSP.
717 will get you DTW or ATL ASAP but no further west.
If I were in your situation I would hope for the 737. If I could not get that I would try for the 320. The SOCAL to SLC commute is pretty easy.
