I think the gentleman's approach with DALPA is only used when Mgt wants something the pilots have. We have no control over who they hire, so they have no real reason to engage the union.
The 1500 hour rule is obviously making it very hard for the regionals to hire pilots at below-bus-driver wages. This flow up will provide career incentive to these guys faced with taking on $100k in debt for a $20k/year job.
Maybe the Mgt opener for Contract 15 will include a sponsorship program. Each Delta pilot subsidizes one regional pilot with a $2k/month stipend. This would allow them to "attract career-minded pilots while positioning the airline for growth."
