At the conference, Smisek said United intends to "increase quarterly earnings each quarter going forward (and) we are confident of our ability to do so." By 2017, United intends to increase earnings between two and four times.

Smisek further went on to say "We calculated this with our top of the line IT system that we also use to build pilot schedules, track reserve usage, and accurately track pilot payroll. This system said we would increase profits fourfold."
