Delta originally wanted roughly 350-450 pilots for year of 2014. Now it has increased to roughly 800-900.
Reportedly for the next two months it's supposed to be 100 hires. Beginning in August 72 hires per month for the remaining of the year.
The goal is to send pilots straight to training without a pool. Also after the offer on the spot the push is for 2-3 weeks before class starts.

This is historically how DAL handled hiring/training in other high(er) volume hiring periods. Get the interview process and training pipeline geared up and when its running on all cylinders, pump 'em through.
So, good source or not, I think your post is on the money. If it needs to be said, this is incredibly good news for guys in the pool or already hired - seniority is everything.
