Yeah, I hear you...there are no guarentees with anything, I understand that...not sure that the airline path is for me anyway...I definitely do not want to sit reserve and commute and sit in hotels, so I'm just looking at all my options and seeing what works best for me and the fam.

Be prepared for the worse, embrace what you can.
First, actually be hired by Delta. That's one in a thousand.
Second, be open to flying anything, anywhere. If you're not, you'll be miserable.
Third, IMHO, it sounds like you are waffling on the airlines. If you aren't prepared for commutes and reserve, you're looking at the wrong career.
Don't mean to be harsh but helpful. DAL might not be right for you if you're not willing to go all in.
