Blind devotion to a job/company works for some, but if you aren't trying to better your circumstances, you might as well be a robot, IMHO. I expect it to be tough wrt commutes and reserve, what I'm trying to figure out is how to make that time the shortest possible!

Get in as soon as you can. Bid the most junior plane you can in a base you want. Stay there and climb the ladder fast. Once you've climbed it, keep staying there and enjoy the view. Don't throw a Captain bid in, particularly at a less desireable base, unless you want to start your QOL gains over for a raise thats going to be half lost to taxes anyway.
