We also have an OJI bank of 400 hours. And a very good LTD plan as well. Those are huge as well.
I want to add that:
The DC (Defined Contribution) plan is an additional quarterly payout into your 401k fund. In my case, it’s an extra $4500 annually. This payout grows with your regular 401k match and contribution and if you think about it over long term, the DC plan can worth be
hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The LTD plan that pays 55% of 80 hours (tax free) up to age 65 if a pilot loses his/her medical certificate and up to two years for psychological leaves (depression). Any other income that does not require an FAA Medical Certificate will not offset this payout. So, if you are getting 3000 a month from LTD, and you are able to pursue another career, you can still collect the 3000 until you age 65. Why would you not want something to protect your income if you lose your medical? I think most Legacy carriers have this type of plan.
