Although simply passing an FAA written exam is "enough", it shows a lack of motivation to barely get by. Some airlines like Fedex used to want at least a 94-96% minimum on the Flight Engineer Written. Anything less was considered by them to be laziness on the part of the pilot. Screw this advice. My tickets are in my back pocket. Every time i showed a designee my score he would look at it and say i see you passed.......moving on. And getting a 90 plus on the FE exam is NOT easy.
