I know at my last carrier (yeah, it's a regional, but from an HR standpoint, it's not THAT different), it was all techincal for the interview. We had some guys that could quote you he FARs and did great in the sims, but when put in interpersonal situations, they didn't do so well. When you're fighting for every last customer and your reputation is built on customer service like ours, that's not really a road we need to go down.
No reason why we couldn't ask BOTH technical and TMAAT questions in the interview. Great to have nice people flying our planes and helping the customers when able, but when the poop hits the fan I'd much rather have someone who is competent and experienced in the right seat than someone who pushes wheelchairs. My wife is a great woman and very personable. However, I don't want her in the cockpit nor does she belong there.
