I actually would recommend getting a crashpad over a hotel. Find a nice one for $300-$400 with your own room, nice living room to relax in, nice kitchen, and bring your car down. WAY better than being cooped up in a small hotel room and having to take the shuttle.
There are tons of them available if you have a car. If you don't want to bring a car you might find a place within a few blocks of VA. You can walk to the Holiday Inn and take their shuttle to the training center if you do that.
If you have the $$$ the Residence is probably the best bet, but it will cost ya.
I got ATL88 in training so I found me a nice crashpad for training and kept it until I bid out of ATL. $250 a month and had my own room. Walked over to the old Comfort Inn for a ride to the training center or airport. Just takes a lot of stress out of your life when you are new.
I'd much rather pay for a place to stay during sim training than have to cough up a 737 type, have no benefits for 6 months, or get paid what JetBlue pays during training.
