Maybe it's changed since I was a regional FO about 3 years ago but at the time 9 out of 10 PICs I flew with did not have apps out. I was constantly disappointed in people because they didn't have their logbook up to date and weren't sure where they wanted to go and "oh... I'll apply in a year things are good here right now." Then I realized every one of these guys was one more less person competing for the job!
I couldn't agree more. I think their are very few TPIC pilots that have applied. If i had to guess and this would simply be a guess. I would say that of the 8,000 applications; 2000 are military, 2000 are TPIC and the rest are FO's. It seems almost every FO that I fly with has applied but of the 1500 captains at the regional I fly with, I find very few captains that have applied.
I can tell you for a fact from the VP of flight ops told me that DAL has 11,000 applications and only 8,000 meet their minimum qualifications. He also said they have only gone through 1,100 of the 8,000 qualified apps too. This was about a month ago when he told me this.
