If memory serves, new-hires are scheduled for their first recurrent checkride at nine months to ensue that it occurs during probation.
The whole probation thing is essentially a non-event for the professional aviators that are competitive for an interview. A pilot has to be truly "special" to not make it though probation, IMHO.
The very, very few that do not make it are well known because:
1) their antics are spectacular and/or very specific
2) it is so rare
