It appears that either there is a problem with the maintenance system in Unimatic, or pilot access to the system has been removed as of Sat morning. Now if you type in AMSDIS/(enter), you get an error message.
It is very useful to see the entire maintenance history of an aircraft. There are many items in the MX history that do not make it into our flight planning pages. This info is filtered, or dumbed down so a lowly pilot can understand it.
However, there is a certain advantage to seeing what station signed off a write up and what the resolution was. This was a LUAL system. It was real handy to know the history and recurring MX inspection cycles.
If anyone is interested, I will be flooring the following resolution for new business at the Council 34 meeting on Wed:
"
Whereas United pilots have traditionally had access to aircraft maintenance history via the AMSDIS command in Unimatic and were able to use this very valuable tool to assess the complete maintenance condition of each aircraft prior to each flight,
Whereas access to AMSDIS also tells us the remedy of each discrepancy, as well as engine history,
Whereas AMSDIS is an extremely valuable tool helping to determine recurring inspections required, and deferrals,
Therefore be it resolved, the UAL MEC use all its resources to restore pilot access to the AMSDIS maintenance pages for this safety related flight planning tool.
Therefore be it further resolved, that any future maintenance documentation and archiving tools be available for pilot access and review of aircraft maintenance status."
I already have ALPA safety looking into why this important flight planning tool was taken away from us. Any input or improvement in the resolution would be welcome.
