It is what I have always wanted to do and for me is just as important as being home when my children were there. Believe it or not, once you get your time at the regional s there is a whole world of aviation that opens up for you. I am very fortunate to have a job that fits my lifestyle so well. However, I would have never even applied for this job had I been as close minded as you. BTW, if you don't love airplanes or your job what the hell are you doing there? There are better ways to make a living that would afford you much more time at home.
When my kids are grown, the"magic" is over. I'm not one(nor is my wife) where we will control their every move til they're 30(and in turn make them dependent on us as is the norm these days). When my kids are done with college, and the girls are wed, it's back to one on one time with the wife. As for now, I NEED to be with them as much as possible.
I don't LOVE any non-human(other than God, as previously stated). I fly airplanes because I was lured into it unexpectedly and ignorantly back in 1994. Of those twenty years, 11 plus have been as a professional pilot and(as are others), I'm in way too deep to get out.
