If you are flying out of SLC, you will be given a clearance "out of the bravo airspace". If you tell them you are a student pilot, you will be given a bit more slack. Just tell them destination and requested altitude. Review 91.131. Upon return you must specifically be cleared into bravo airspace. If you do not hear these words, even if the heading and altitude assigned will take you into it ask for a clearance.
