The DPE told me before hand that I was going to pass because if I showed that I didn't display the knowledge or fly to commercial standards then he would have to fail me and take my certificates. I know a guy who showed up for his initial 121 check airman ride and was told by the POI (who happened to be there) that if he screwed up, his ATP was on the line as well. He smiled, said thanks but no thanks and if anybody wants to join me I'm going to go get some beers now...and walked out (he was very senior and didn't need the money or the resume bullet).
