ALPA has always had contract language to deal with staffing. An easy fix to the AF/KLM deficit was language which required Delta staff for our share of flying without regard for whether it was actually scheduled & flown.
These kinds of provisions take away the pecuniary benefit of these "oops, they were cheaper and we just happened to just them because of (pick excuse from today's headlines)."

The politicians know we will sell jobs for pay; so that is what they deliver. The change begins with us.
Delta is quite a ways away from being able to be "Delta" without Delta pilots, but it would appear we are bracketed on the top and bottom ends of our flying.
