People memorialize dead relatives, their spouse/kids, military service all the time. Nothing wrong with a tribute, just be careful where you put it so as not to limit career options.
Fwiw, using a girlfriend/boyfriend's name is prob not a great idea for obvious reasons. I had a former bf put my initials in one of his tats.....bet he's regretted that many times over!
