Yes there is a saftety factor to it but in my experinece the onboard FAs is that I have a hard time believing they are the ones going to save anyone in a true emergancy. Not all Fas but most just seem a little um well - ditsy.
WOW!!! Something tells me that you don't fly with Flight Attendants. If you do, I hope they don't find out who you are. Just like ATC, you never know when you might need one when sh&t hits the fan. Think about this scenario: You just overran the runway and hit your head on the cockpit walls during the overrun. You're knocked out and the aircraft is on fire. See where I'm heading with this? I personally know a few that said if this did happen that they wouldn't be coming for the Skipper. Treat people how you want to be treated. As for me, I'm flying with the boxes now but you should watch what you say if you want help when the time comes. I flew with numerous flight attendants that had degrees and were bored with it so they decided to fly. Oh yeah, and some of them have a bottlomless gut when it came to partaking in layover duties of the fun kind.

I'm not trying to lecture here but I do want you to see where they are not just "ditzy."
