I guess I don't understand how it can ONLY be on paper?

Just for argument sake, let's say this bump of 30 goes to 10 very senior line CAs (all non PIs) and then 20 very junior CAs (inverse seniority from the bottom) -- 7 of those bottom 20 are PIs and one is on LTA.... So how many are actually going to be bumped?

The PIs are on the seniority list. Does the company count them as part of the 30? Or will they actually bump 38 CAs?
Lets say they are bumping 30 FOs on the 76T. That means that 30 active pilots will get bumps. Lets also say that the bottom 30 FOs on the 76T have 2 pilots on Long Term Absence, and 5 Pilot Instructors. They will all get bumps, so 37 pilots total, but the LTA and PIs don't affect staffing. They are like ghost bumps. They just ghost bump into another seat, guppy Captain lets say, and when they start bumping guppy Captains, they will get bumped again, potentially.

But they do not count against the total number of bumps. You can look at vacancy awards where it says 30 pilots were awarded a category, but then you can 35 pilots, because LTA and PIs also show up in there.

I hope that explains it.
