Don't know where TK came from originally but it's short for DENTK. Maybe one of the United historians will come up with it's logic or if it makes you feel better, you can make up your own.

DENTK came about because United has a nemonic address system
and DENTKs' SITA address is TK "DENTKUA" (though we rarely use Sita internally anymore.. WAY Back when? before E-Mail became popular Sita was how airlines got messages from place to place. kinda like Western Union. So? San Francisco's Maint Center is "SFOOVUA" (OV for overhaul) FT was used for Freight rather than Flight training) Everything was based on a SITA address..
