There is a huge difference between someone who did their degree in the military compared to an 18 year old who used college money to pay for ratings because he was too impatient to go to college before getting an airline job and then got the degree while on the line at Mesa. The expectations of someone with military service exceed that of someone with a B.S. Degree from State U.
