Yep. Do the math. 17 days off a month, 89 hour line, potentially 3 4-day trips or if you want you can do it all at once and have the rest of the month off, you fly the freaking 747, you gross $23K a month, $280 per year and you could if you wanted have a vacation week basically every other month.
And you're going to be convinced to go down to $0 and retire early?? You'd be crazy. I guess you could do a practice run and put your trips on the swap board and see what a month of zero pay feels like but I doubt anyone would do that.
I agree that most won't leave. They don't go to $0, at 60 they get 100% of their pensions, 100% lump sum non qualified money! plus 401k cash they have saved over the last 30 years.
