Much of the use of a forum is often suppose to be about learning.
If you are being 'taught' something about the business by those actually doing the job and you don't have any reason to not believe that they are portraying the truth about the profession then why wouldn't they reiterate the things that they have 'learned' from the forum?
For the simple reason that I don't take lesson by person that are not in the business but just report things on a forum because they have talk to someone who knows somebody who said something...

I cannot confirm the "slamming the gear story" because, where I work, I haven't heard anybody saying that.
What do you mean for the one that really do the job? Who are they?
