He's right it's only a second class required! When the ATP rule initially came out the FAA was requiring a 1st class medical... That changed and now it's only a second class. You are not the exercising your ATP as the PIC.
Wouldn't be the first time I was misinformed. Can you direct me to the FAR that specifically states this?
My company's FOM plainly states that an FO must have a valid 1st class medical.
