Mike, don't forget the jumpseat(s). Cabin can be full with 20 HKs unable to board, and you still may well still get on the plane. Delta's got an exceptionally commuter-friendly JS policy whereby you can reserve the JS. Add to that any open FA and/or offline jumpseats, and you have far better chances of getting on than a typical non-rev'er....
