It's certainly not meaningless- saying that is hyperbole. I believe it to be significant that his mind was changed like that. You know as well as I do how horrible and agenda driven reporters can be, and pulling a couple snippets out of a 45 minute conversation can be colored a wide range of ways.
You know how much I dislike Moak, but I'm willing to admit that I was wrong when I was wrong.
