Not historically, but they are now looking for a slightly different demographic. Older pilots who are less likely to quit within a year are desirable. Usually, the average age of a new hire class is mid-thirties. It looks like the recent classes are mid-to-late forties. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with older, more experienced people, but they are trying to stop the hemorrhaging of pilots to legacies and other LCC's. When I was hired, the perfect candidate was a mid-twenties 1900 or canyon pilot who came from a beat down and dejected carrier. This way, he or she wouldn't know what they were missing.

Nowadays, almost every pilot under the age of 40 is actively looking for other employment and every pilot under 30 is as good as gone within a couple of years.
